What Does the Bible Say about Trials and Temptations?
Pastor Adrienne Shales
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
If you love me keep my commandments.
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed there to according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
1 Peter 1:7
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory (PHG - Praise, Honor, Glory) at the appearing of Jesus Christ.
Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him.
I Peter 5:10
But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to succour (to help or to bring aid) them that are tempted.
1 Corinthians 10:13
There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation works patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope makes not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
2 Corinthians 4:17
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
I Peter 2:21
For even hereunto were you called; because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps.
So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth the peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
